If you want to process the cards online you will need to buy or rent a credit card processing software from a software provider. This process can cost more than processing payments through credit card terminals.
Charges for using magnetic swipe machines are much lower since the risk for fraud is lesser because of the actual presence of the cardholder and the card which makes its verification easier. These are the most commonly used equipment for credit or debit card payments. You can see them at several stores that accept payments through credit and debit cards. If you purchase a magnetic card reader, it would cost you several hundred dollars.
Another equipment that you can use if you have an internet merchant account is the mobile terminal which uses a wireless internet connection to transmit payment information. Although it can be expensive, it is convenient to use.
For my internet merchant account I choose to use a credit card processing software. I find it easier and more convenient to use. It might cost me a little bit more than the other equipment but it will surely help make my online business run smoothly.
